英語節2006之精「英」爭霸戰 -- 決賽致辭全文
(只設英文版)
Dr Leung, principals and teachers, ladies and gentlemen,
I am honoured to be here this afternoon to congratulate and encourage all the finalist teams and witness the emergence of the real "English Survivor". With the success in organising the English Festival last year, the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) is privileged to organise the English Festival 2006, with aims to raise students and public interest in the learning and use of English.
The English Survivor Competition is one of the signature programmes designed by our activity organiser, the Hong Kong Community College (HKCC). The competition motivates students to practise using English through creative games. Apart from traditional drama performance, music and debates, SCOLAR affirmed that creative games would be an excellent alternative to learn and use English in a lively way outside the classroom. The success of the competition was embodied by the active participation of secondary students. I am so proud to share with you that, we had 90 teams in junior level and 64 teams in senior level, a total of 154 teams competed in the first six heats of the competition during the last couple of weeks. Today, we hold a grand final for the best 30 teams in the senior level. I wish you all a memorable experience, as well as a good opportunity to play and learn.
After the grand final today, there will be a sharing session in July. You will have a chance to share your experience in joining this activity. A sample kit will also be distributed during the sharing session. Teachers can base on the sample kit and design your own "English Survivor Competition" between classes or even schools.
In this juncture, I want to deliver my gratitude to the activity organiser, HKCC. During the English Festival 2006, HKCC not only devoted enormous efforts in organising the English Survivor Competition for all participating secondary school students, but also provided excellent language consultancy for our TV programme "One-minute English" broadcast on TVB Jade Channel. The TV programme launched on 3 April received over 1.2 million viewers in its first week of broadcast. Contribution from HKCC is well-recognised by SCOLAR, teachers, students and public members.
Finally, I wish you all an enjoyable game today, play hard and "survive"!
Thank you.
