SCOLAR set up the Putonghua Summer Immersion Course Subsidy Scheme in 2000 to subsidise teachers to attend Putonghua summer immersion courses in the Mainland. The purpose is to help more Chinese Language teachers enhance their Putonghua proficiency and their readiness to try teaching Chinese Language in Putonghua. The rate of subsidy is based on participating teachers' performance in the Putonghua Shuiping Ceshi that they have taken before and after the immersion courses. The maximum amount of grant is $12,500 per person.
