2018 World Book Day Fest – Towards a Reading City
The 2018 World Book Day Fest is co-organised by the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) and the Education Bureau (EDB). Building on the strengths in the promotion of reading across the curriculum, the theme of the Fest, “Towards a Reading City”, aims to foster students’ habit of reading widely to enrich their lives through capitalising on the synergy of schools, parents and community partners in fostering a sustainable reading atmosphere and culture across the city.

Programme Content:
Welcoming speech by Mr HUANG Lester Garson, J.P., Chairman of SCOLAR;
Opening address by the VIP Officiating Guest;
Parallel sessions will be conducted to share experience on how schools, parents as well as government and non-governmental organisations promote a city-wide love for reading;
Parallel student activity sessions, with the highlight of Reading Marathon featuring participatory and interactive reading, will also be organised to engage kindergarten, primary and secondary students in experiencing the pleasurable experiences of reading;
Game booths of fun, creative and meaningful Chinese and English language activities in the contexts of different stories under the theme “Appreciation and Respect” will be run; and
Book exhibition will be organised at the venue for the display of interesting multimedia resources to promote reading across the curriculum.

For heads of schools, teachers and school librarians:
Please enrol online through the Training Calendar System (TCS) of the EDB at http://tcs.edb.gov.hk with Course ID CGCDI020180878 between 28 March 2018 (Wednesday) and 18 April 2018 (Wednesday). Applicants will be informed of the application results through the TCS. Enrolment will be processed on a first-come-first-served basis.
For kindergarten children and parents:
Information leaflets with details of the event and enrolment methods have been sent to kindergartens. Enrolment will open from 20 March 2018 (Tuesday) to 13 April 2018 (Friday). Enrolment will be processed on a first-come-first-served basis.
For primary and secondary students and parents:
Information leaflets with details of the event and enrolment methods have been sent to schools. Enrolment closed on 20 March 2018 (Tuesday).
